What is faith toward God?
Faith means being persuaded that God is true, and leaning your whole weight on Jesus to save you.
The Greek word for faith is pistis. It comes from a verb that means “to persuade.” So faith begins when God convinces your heart that He is telling the truth.
Four sides of faith
- Conviction. You are persuaded that God and His Word are true.
- Reliance. You trust Christ, and Christ alone, for your salvation.
- Constancy. You keep holding on, day after day.
- The faith. The word can also mean the gospel itself: the truth we believe.
What did Jesus say about faith?
A Roman officer asked Jesus to heal his servant, and said Jesus only needed to speak the word. Jesus was amazed.
“When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”
Matthew 8:10 · read Matthew 8:1–13A woman who had been sick for twelve years believed that if she could only touch His garment, she would be healed.
“But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.”
Matthew 9:22 · read Matthew 9:20–22God has given every believer “the measure of faith” (Romans 12:3). Our Measure of Faith cards help that faith grow, one verse and one prayer at a time.
