How do I know I really repented?

If you are asking this question, God is already at work in your heart. Here is what the Word shows us:

  • Look at what happened inside. Did you see your sin differently, feel godly sorrow, and turn toward God? Those are the three things that happen when we repent.
  • Look for fruit over time. Real repentance shows in how we live, as the Holy Spirit grows His fruit in us. See fruit that fits repentance (Matthew 3:8; Galatians 5:22–23).
  • Rest on God’s promise, not your feelings. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins” (1 John 1:9). God wrote His Word “that ye may know that ye have eternal life” (1 John 5:13).
